Out for the Earth: Why Environmental Justice Needs Queer Liberation

  • Virtual Event (Zoom) (map)

5:00pm

Join us for a panel event about 2SLGBTQIA+ liberation and environmental justice!

As we celebrate Vancouver and Canada Pride this summer, now is the perfect time to be thinking about protest. Pride itself was first celebrated on the one year anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising. In 1970, pride marches were held in several U.S. cities to demand equal rights. Today, action for 2SLGBTQIA+ rights and other social issues is more pressing than ever, as queer people around the world face attacks on our rights; as Palestinians are subject to genocide; as land back movements face increased repression and police crackdown; as women and queer people are robbed of abortion rights; and so much more.

Today, we’re opening up a discussion of how queer voices and liberation are absolutely necessary in tackling one of the world’s most pressing issues: the environmental crises of climate change, biodiversity loss, and ecological devastation. We are asking how we can move forward by looking at environmental issues through the lens of queer justice. Join us on July 31st to hear from panelists across a variety of backgrounds, including performance art, NGO work, academia, and community-based education.
