Changes to our February Events
January 12, 2022
Over the past weeks, our team has been monitoring the COVID-19 situation and working with partners to determine a way forward, while centering the health and safety of our community.
The Vancouver Winter Pride Festival was initially intended to honour the existing celebrations in February such as, Black History Month and Lunar New Year. Due to the recent rise in COVID-19 cases, we are making changes to our February events.
The Vancouver Winter Pride Festival programming mandate was to create safe spaces for 2SLGBTQAI+ communities, bringing people together, and embracing our intersections. Unfortunately, not all of our events can be executed the way they were originally imagined.
After consulting with community partners and co-presenters, we have made the mutual decision to cancel all indoor events to ensure the health and safety of our communities and to stay true to our intentions.
While we are disappointed about the cancellation of our indoor events, we still look forward to offering a wide range of virtual and COVID-friendly options to connect 2SLGBTQAI+ folks this winter.
For 2022, we are bringing back Pop-Up Pride, including events such as Chosen Family Day: Celebrating Recovery Pathways, The Value and Creativity of Queer Stories presented by Roar Cat Reads, and Winter Arts x Pop-up Pride Celebration, with more to be announced throughout the year.
We would like to thank all community partners who have been working with us on the Vancouver Winter Pride Festival. We remain committed to creating spaces that honour our intersections and will continue to support these community partners through our VPS Community Bursaries.
VPS staff is currently working on February Pop-Up Pride events with more information coming soon.
